1850’s Suburban Living
Built in 1856 with plans designed by noted Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan, this country home near Columbus, Mississippi was designed in the Italianate style for a Tennessee family who owned plantations in the area. Recently it has been restored for a family who actively enjoy the home, entertain often and open it for pilgrimage tours annually.
John Canning & Co., Ltd. fabricated and painted the beautiful trompe l’oeil wall panels in the main hall. Color selections are based upon paint analysis, and the design was taken from pattern books of the period.
